Consistency. This is something few homes we see have. Constantly we see homes with shiny brass doorknobs and hinges, polished aluminum or chrome switch plates mixed with various plastic switch plates. These are combined with lighting fixtures and fans that are either oil rubbed bronze, chrome or shiny brass. Most of the time the light fixtures and fans are a mixture of those colors.
Consider purchasing an entire set of matching switch plate covers, and replace all of the plates in the entire house. Get lighting fixtures and fans that have similar styles and colors. Maybe you should replace all of the door knobs with the same color and style – match the lighting fixtures with the same color. Consider getting door knobs with levers instead of round knobs. Replace the door hinges with the same color. As an alternate, if you’re going with an oil rubbed bronze finish, you can get spray paint that will match for the hinges and save a few dollars.
These are ideas that buyers don’t necessarily notice, but they will subconsciously notice if the colors and looks are not consistent.
